HAZELNUT
There is a very good crop of hazelnut in 2006. This year total quantity of the hazelnut is between 650.000-730.000 tons Turkey's hazelnut export quantity has increased
compared with the 2005 October. In October 2006, it was being raised 5.623.281 kg and was increased 20%.
When the figures of export are examined as a group of products, it is seen that "Hazelnut with Shell" is the most increased product with 307% compared with the last years period
of October.
At the export the biggest portion in October was "Hazelnut Kernel". It was increased from 67% to 68%. In addition to these when we look to "Processed Hazelnut", it was increased 35% in the total.
TURKISH SULTANA
The Aegean Exporter's Association's Crop Estimation Committee finished their survey on 02.08.2008. In their 17 days survey they visited 12 different regions and 182 villages personally, and they collected additional information from The Agricultural Offices of 7 different regions on written. According to their findings 2008 Crop size is expected to be 310.256 metric tons if the whether conditions follow the seasonal averages. This amount is 27,07 % bigger than the 2007 Crop amount of 244.155 metric tons.
Committee's estimated amount supports the general forecast of the Sultana industry which is more than 300.000 metric tons. Normally price levels are expected to decrease with the declared high amount. But a recent development put a question mark to all expectations. Yesterday, Aegean Exporter's Association held a meeting to evaluate the findings of the committee. In this meeting they arrived to a principle decision of eliminating the excess supply of sultanas in cooperation with Turkish Grain Board-TMO. According to the decision; Exporter's Association will contact the Government in order to reserve the necessary funds to purchase and stock 50.000 metric tons as it was done for hazelnuts in previous year. In this scenario excess Crop amount will be stored by the TMO for 6 months period and by this way price levels will not be allowed to decrease. This scenario is not certain for the moment, because it is not clear that The Government will participate and reserve the necessary funds.
We strongly advice our all partners to consider this unclear situation. Ereks will continue to hold its stable position in this environment. I will keep you informed regarding the developments.
TOMATO PASTE
This year because of the unexpected wheather conditions the tomato crop was about
30-35pct short. The crop in the other big tomato paste producer, Italy was also short.
Fort hat reason the tomato paste prices too much increased. The price of 28/30 brix tomato paste in aseptic was about USD 700-750 last year; but, this year the price
already exceeded USD 1000.

Chickpea
The Turkish chickpea market becoming more optimistic about future prospects on
account of the massive decline in world production. The sharp drop in world chickpea output may have strong demand for Turkish product with higher prices. The final
crop must come out somewhere between 360-380.000 mt due to
unweather conditions which caused less
yield. High prices and holiday season causing a lack of participation by importers nowadays. Current price of standard quality 8mm Kabuli type chickpea is usd 965 mt
FOB Mersin and the average price, over all types and grades, is forecast to rise due to tight world supply.

White bean
production is more than the last 5 years average, together with the carry-in, the produce
is sufficient to cover the local demand. Farmers generally are concerned with the
continues import from China, Kirgizistan and USA, however the rise of the import tax increased the cost of any imported beans in Turkey. The world tight supply enables to
help the farmers to sell their products at high levels. Old crop Sira beans, 7-8mm, sortex qlty, traded at usd 1.050 mt FOB basis.
